Vascular Surgery Serious Unintended Outcomes (SUO) M&M Conference 2025

Our busy vascular surgery practice at Luminis Health has had a monthly morbidity and mortality conference during which we discuss ALL of the service line's complications and 30-day readmissions and mortalities. This conference structure is a rotating set of presentations of selected cases that are distributed to the vascular group ahead of time. These clinical presentations are done alongside showing radiology imaging, review of literature, and analysis of systems changes and opportunities for improvement. Our AAMC general surgery residents attend this educational conference when they are rotating on our service. Due to its increasing popularity we have residents even not on our rotation requesting to attend and participate. This conference is critical to quality improvement for our vascular surgery patients. It also serves as a way for us to develop critical questions and research projects when we do not have a good answer to our clinical questions.

1. Identify key opportunities within a case with a serious unintended outcome to have changed that outcomes. This may either be a change in clinical management, surgical technique, postop care.
2. Learners may identify barriers within the health system/socioeconomic barriers for patients that contribute to these unintended outcomes.

Luminis Health is accredited by MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
